Law Extern

ASU Enterprise Partners is seeking a highly motivated and intellectually curious ASU law student to join our legal team as an extern. This is a unique opportunity to engage in real-world legal practice, where your work will directly contribute to advancing the ASU Charter—a commitment to inclusion, academic excellence, and societal impact. You will work closely with experienced attorneys in a collaborative, mission-driven environment that values creativity, integrity, and practical legal thinking.

As a legal extern, you won’t just observe—you’ll do. We will challenge you to move beyond theory and put legal concepts into practice. You will have the opportunity to support a wide array of innovative ventures by analyzing complex legal questions, drafting key documents, and directly engaging with internal clients under close supervision. You’ll develop real skills and gain a deeper understanding of how law supports transformative institutional change.

ASU Enterprise Partners (EP) is an Arizona nonprofit corporation and tax-exempt public charity that exists to amplify the impact of Arizona State University by generating resources and creating solutions that advance the ASU Charter.

What you’ll do

• Work on creative solutions and strategies around complex opportunities. Our clients operate in a variety of sectors, so you will have subject matter options.

• Participate in client meetings and help prepare legal guidance that empowers stakeholders to make informed, risk-conscious decisions aligned with the ASU Charter.

• Contribute to the design and execution of legal strategies that support innovative initiatives, from social impact investing to cross-border education partnerships.

• Receive continuous feedback and mentoring from an experienced legal team who are committed to your professional growth and legal education.

• Participate in a variety of legal support tasks, including document management, compliance tracking, and administrative filings.

What you'll need

• Expected to uphold the highest ethical standards and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive matters. Trust and discretion are imperative in this role.

• Ability to balance multiple assignments, manage competing deadlines, and proactively seek clarity and direction when needed.

• Detail-oriented thinking is essential; the ability to clearly and effectively communicate through analysis.

• Legal writing, presentation, and collaboration skills are critical.

• Demonstrated interest in social impact, public service, and innovation in education. Belief in using legal training to serve a broader mission and drive meaningful change.

• Strong ability to self-manage time and priorities.

• Proficiency in working in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment.

• Comfortable navigating uncertainty and excited about learning new areas of the law.

Required education and experience

• A current law student at Arizona State University.

• Student must be willing to sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement.
