Job Description

 

AECOM is seeking a computational designer / engineer to assist with delivering transportation projects by applying the developed automated design workflows and tools. This role is being created within our Enterprise Capabilities Team and the successful candidate will report to the Digital Engineering Director.  This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule including both in-office and remote work options.

We are looking for a motivated and results-driven Team Leader to oversee, guide, and inspire a team to achieve organizational goals and ensure efficient and effective project delivery with focus on transportation projects. The ideal candidate will bring exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills to the role, ensuring the team is aligned, motivated, and productive.

This role will closely work with computational design team to learn the latest developments and providing the feedback to computational design team for improvement of workflows and tools.

This role requires expertise in several different areas, including:

  • Domain knowledge as a practicing in either of these areas: road, rail, tunnel, bridge, civil structure and utilities system.
  • Expert user of digital production platforms in the domain
  • Parametric modelling, creation and development of smart objects (i.e.: Revit Families using adaptive components), with customizable functionality and custom-built parameters for automation.
  • Creator and author of definitions using out of the box nodes tools within the defined platforms.
  • Work with project delivery teams to accurately capture the requirements of any workflow we are seeking to automate, in order to create a specification for the tools and content that will be required to achieve the automation aim.
  • Open and willing to be flexible regarding taking on varied types of work, learn and develop new skills for digital project delivery whilst supporting the project teams with traditional deliverables.

Leadership and supervision

  • Lead, supervise, and support team members to meet objectives and performance standards.
  • Set clear team goals, delegate tasks effectively, and monitor progress.
  • Motivate the team to achieve individual and collective targets.

Operational Management

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to company processes.
  • Monitor and manage workloads, ensuring resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Identify and resolve operational challenges promptly.

Performance Management

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and performance reviews to provide feedback and address development needs.
  • Recognize and reward outstanding performance.
  • Implement strategies to improve team productivity and quality of work.

Communication and Coordination

  • Act as the main point of contact between team members and senior management.
  • Facilitate clear and open communication within the team.
  • Organize and lead team meetings to update members on objectives, projects, and company developments.

Training and Development

  • Identify training needs and opportunities for team members.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to support career development.
  • Organize and participate in training sessions to enhance team competencies.

Problem-Solving and Decision-Making

  • Address and resolve team conflicts and concerns professionally.
  • Analyse problems, identify solutions, and make decisions to drive team success.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and proactive problem-solving.

Technical Skills

  • Working closely with BIM Managers in delivery team, who are responsible for producing project information models
  • Keeping up to date with in-house computational design tool sets with regular communication. Educate the project team on the latest developments and tool sets available to be used.
  • Ability to build be-spoke definitions and guide the rest of team to develop the be-spoke definitions to meet the project delivery needs where required.

 

 


 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computational Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related discipline plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Minimum 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role in project management.
  • Proven domain-knowledge and experience related to design or modelling of roads, rails, bridges, or tunnels.
  • Proven track record of design automation experience using the required platforms.
  • Proven track record of the ability to create complex parametric content, for use with automation tools.
  • Have a good working knowledge of BIM Platforms complimentary to using authoring tools (i.e.: BIM360/ACC, Navisworks, ProjectWise, Revizto, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge with Revit adaptive family, Dynamo and Civil 3D

Skills

  • Proven ability to lead and manage a diverse team.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering
  • Working knowledge of any of the following will be considered favorable: Revit SDK, Dynamo SDK, Forge APIs, Rhinoceros SDK, Grasshopper SDK, RhinoInside, RhinoCompute (Hops), Bentley Connect SDK, Python, C#.
  • Experience within Building, Transportation or Water design projects.
