Job Description

The Medical Excellence and Operations Manager is responsible for driving both excellence and operational efficiency in Medical Affairs activities in Australia and New Zealand. This includes implementing innovative customer engagement solutions and aligning medical operations to ensure a high-performing team. The role will serve as a key partner to multiple internal stakeholders, offering subject matter expertise and strategic support in both medical excellence and operational activities.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and execution of medical digital and omnichannel strategies and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Provide strategic insights and support to Medical Affairs and leadership teams for planning and executing medical plans.
  • Work with internal partners such as Business Technology Solutions, Customer Excellence, and Global/Intercontinental Medical teams to enhance capabilities and implement best practices in medical engagement.
  • Support execution of In-Field Team Fundamentals, through identifying and prioritising learning capabilities to ensure the team is set-up for success and equipped with the latest tools and knowledge to drive Field Medical Excellence.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive onboarding and continuous learning curricula in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Conduct training initiatives to bridge identified gaps in skills and knowledge across the medical team. Supporting coaching excellence that drives execution and high-performing team culture.
  • Manage and oversee multiple projects, ensuring alignment with global standards and local needs. to drive consistency and efficiency in processes across medical functions.
  • Embed the ADKAR change management framework for key projects.
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and innovation in both medical excellence and operations.
  • Support digital strategy initiatives and optimize tools like Veeva CRM, AbbViePro.
  • Establish and maintain systems and dashboards as relevant for reporting key execution indicators and outcomes of medical activities.
  • Collaborate with teams to generate insights and shape strategy using data analytics and utilising data to demonstrate the value and impact medical brings to the business.
  • Assist in managing the medical budget and resource modeling to support business needs, including pre-launch preparations and special projects.
  • Ensure all business activities comply with the relevant Acts, legal demands and ethical standards. 
  • Report any adverse event within 24 hours as per AbbVie’s policies and procedures.
  • Proactively participate in AbbVie’s WHS programs, adhere to policies and promote a safe work environment at all times.
  • Adhere to AbbVie’s internal codes of conduct and compliance processes.
  • Other ad hoc duties such as administrative duties, as requested.

Qualifications

  • Medical or Bachelor degree in a scientific discipline or higher.
  • Experience working in the pharmaceutical industry and general knowledge on drug development and clinical research an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills and experience in developing and implementing strong communication and engagement plans.
  • Demonstrated strategic ability in leadership roles.
  • Experience working in the field with HCPs with a high customer orientation.
  • Expertise in CRM systems, platforms and methodologies and production of associated reports.
  • Proven facilitation skills and experience guiding and leading teams of peers, superiors, and wider brand teams without authority
  • Collaborative, team-oriented approach, able to develop and support relationships across an organisation as well as with key external stakeholders and the healthcare community at large.
  • Experience being an active contributor to cross-functional teams and/or working in matrix organisations will be an advantage. 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities with a strong sense of urgency
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements governing Medical Affairs and ability to implement and guide capability and the design of protocols with limited oversight.
