Purpose Statement:
The primary functions of this role are to strategize internal communications and culture to establish the Oncology Business Unit (BU) as a great place to work and govern strategic planning efforts across the BU and with key partners. Additionally, this role runs AbbVie Oncology’s Program Management Office (PMO) supporting project and program planning needs across the BU. This role delivers and executes strategic communications for a diverse and global spectrum of internal stakeholders and cross-functional partners. It also plays a critical role in supporting team culture and broader BU culture priorities as the lead of the Force for Inclusive Action (FFIA). This individual should deliver a strong creative and strategic vision for evolving communications, culture, strategic planning, and project execution, while also being accountable for execution. The Associate Director, Strategic Planning and Communications will report to the Director, Strategic Planning, Congresses, and Operations.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic partner to President of AbbVie Oncology and responsible for internal communications that drive business impact with measurable execution.
- Lead strategy and execution for above-brand business unit internal meetings and associated communications activities including All-Staff Meetings, Regional Directors District Managers (RDDM), National Meeting, and cross-functional Leadership Forums.
- Lead for business unit FFIA Council in fostering a diverse and inclusive work culture that inspires employee engagement, innovation, and productivity. Drive the council’s execution of cultural programming and rituals such as Local Link-up, Women in Oncology, etc.
- Drive cross-functional messaging alignment on key announcements such as scientific milestones, and business integrations in coordination with Public Affairs to align messages for internal and external audiences, respectively.
- Partner with key stakeholders, including Business Unit Vice Presidents, chief of staff, and FFIA colleagues, to manage internal calendar and drive results through project management, strategic planning, and communications support.
- Present communication strategy through written and verbal presentations to leadership.
- Coach senior leaders in storytelling on multiple topics inclusive of strategic priorities, issues management, areas of science and innovation, as well as transformation and change.
- Establish and lead governance of BU-wide strategic planning processes, involving collecting the latest guidance from Enterprise and Brand Excellence and adapting it for the BU.
- Champion strategic planning and change management for future oncology integrations, co-promotions, and/or pipeline evaluations for potential new franchises.
- People Leader for team of Project Managers who coordinate above-brand program and project planning and execution and communications manager.
- Establish standardized processes and methodologies to execute projects efficiently and effectively with cross-functional involvement, fostering portfolio mindset and achieving operational efficiencies and project outcomes.
- Ensure BU above-brand projects align with the strategic objectives and priorities of the oncology division, supporting the overall goals of AbbVie
- Establish processes and capabilities for the BU to forecast project demand and drive prioritization across BU Leaders for focused utilization of our limited resources.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10+ years of strategic communication experience, particularly in high-pressure, agile and matrixed environments.
- 5+ years of executive communications experience.
- Strong strategic thinking skills and excellent execution abilities to deliver engaging communications (All-Staff Meetings, executive messages). Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently and under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in working with senior executives, showcasing strong emotional intelligence (EQ), strong executive presence, and the ability to build productive positive working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, navigate a matrixed organization, build effective working relationships, and utilize strong influence and negotiation skills.
- Ability to provide strategic counsel for a variety of strategic planning, project management, culture, and communications scenarios and to a variety of internal stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated growth mindset, self-motivation and a “one team” mindset
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, analytical and leadership capabilities
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate others to achieve business objectives.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
