Job Description

We’re looking for a thoughtful, action oriented Senior Software Engineer to join our Lead Platform engineering team. This team plays a vital role in enabling APFM to connect families with the right senior care solutions through robust systems for lead capture, routing, and tracking. The Lead Platform is the beating heart of our business — powering the experiences and insights our advisors depend on every day.

The lead platform team is a growing engineering group modernizing core services by transitioning from legacy .NET systems to a modern stack built on NestJS, NodeJS, and React. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering – Lead Platform, you’ll help design, build, and support scalable services that are at the center of our product ecosystem.

You’ll work closely with a passionate group of engineers, product managers, and QA teammates, all focused on building high-quality, high-impact solutions that support our mission to help families navigate senior living decisions with confidence and care.

Who you are:

You’re a pragmatic builder with a deep curiosity for how systems work and a strong instinct for solving the right problems. You enjoy taking ownership of complex challenges and thrive in environments where you can drive clarity and momentum, even when the path isn’t fully paved.

You're experienced in building and evolving backend systems, especially in modern JavaScript/TypeScript environments. You know how to collaborate across disciplines, pair with product and QA, and ensure that quality is baked into every step of the development lifecycle. While you care deeply about clean code and robust architecture, you’re equally focused on outcomes — delivering features that are reliable, scalable, and actually move the needle.

You see software engineering as a craft, and you take pride in writing code that lasts. You’re someone who values learning, embraces feedback, and contributes to a positive, high-trust engineering culture.

What you will do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using NestJS, NodeJS, and Express as part of our Lead Platform modernization efforts.
  • Own and deliver well-scoped projects and features from end to end — from technical design through implementation, testing, deployment, and support.
  • Lead efforts in debugging, refactoring, and optimizing performance across services you help maintain.
  • Work with product managers and QA to translate business requirements into resilient, well-tested software solutions.
  • Contribute to architectural discussions, design reviews, and platform-wide decision-making.
  • Help evolve and enforce strong engineering standards via code reviews, documentation, and mentorship.
  • Participate in the creation and maintenance of automated tests and CI/CD pipelines to ensure rapid, stable delivery.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues — using logs, metrics, and instrumentation to continuously improve reliability.
  • Document your work clearly and communicate technical concepts effectively to a range of stakeholders.
  • Engage with the engineering team on technical planning and provide timeline estimates and implementation guidance for smaller to moderately complex tasks.
  • Collaborate with and learn from senior engineers and engineering leadership while also mentoring more junior teammates as appropriate.
  • Actively apply and model our APFM Build Principles, contributing to a culture of ownership, learning, and shared success.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional backend engineering experience, including modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (NestJS, NodeJS, Express).
  • Familiarity with transitioning from or integrating with .NET-based legacy systems.
  • Proficiency with modern backend architecture patterns, including API design (REST and GraphQL), asynchronous processing, and microservices.
  • Experience working with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS (Lambda, Fargate, S3, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
  • Demonstrated experience in CI/CD pipelines and version control (GitHub Actions, Docker, etc.).
  • Solid testing mindset — experience writing and maintaining unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; able to clearly articulate technical decisions and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Proven ability to work independently and with a distributed team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for continuous learning, product quality, and team success.

Compensation

  • Base Salary: $130k-$160k + 10% Bonus
  • Benefits:
    • 401(k) plus match
    • Dental insurance
    • Health insurance
    • Vision Insurance
    • Paid Time Off
