We are looking for a senior designer to join our Design Systems team and help lead the continued evolution and governance of our design system, its design language, and the team's capabilities to support the design organization. This designer will lead peers, grow and mentor other designers, and help build relationships with our stakeholders on the product, engineering, and marketing teams. They’ll be responsible for ensuring the design system meets the needs of its consumers and that components, documentation, and processes meet the high bar of quality we expect to see in our end products.
The ideal candidate loves to roll up their sleeves and dig into Figma with their peers, exploring solutions together, asking why, and attempting to understand the problems they are attempting to solve for our users while leveraging the design system. While working with feature designers, they ensure we do not lose sight of the forest for the trees, connecting dots between products and rigorously considering the broader customer experience or journey across multiple flows or products.

What we're looking for:
Design Systems Experience & Competencies
5+ years of relevant design experience, with 3+ years of which focused on building and maintaining design systems in software development, technology, or agency environments.
A strong portfolio demonstrating how design systems drive meaningful business impact through collaboration and blending the skills of product design, visual design, and interaction design.
Stellar Figma skills utilizing variables and design tokens, auto layout, slots, and the ability to build flexible components that balance flexibility with rigid application.
Ability to research, design, validate, and maintain components, libraries, and UI patterns across multiple products to create a cohesive visual language and experience.
Has examples showing strong craft skills in areas of visual design and interaction design (animation, typography, grids and spacing, color theory, etc) through past work and experiences
Strong written and verbal communication skills are demonstrated in guidelines and documentation crafted to support our trifecta partners.
Ability to mentor and lead designers in growing their craft and ability to connect their work to business drivers while fostering a culture of curiosity and growth through critique, pairing sessions, and office hours.
Knowledge of inclusive design principles and best practices, leveraging guidance from WCAG and W3C standards
Experience working closely with cross-functional teams (PMs, Designers, PMMs, Engineers, etc.) to evangelize design systems, collect feedback, and make changes that have measurable improvements to our users
Familiarity with the front-end technologies used to create a design system (React, CSS, HTML); basically, you need to know how the design system gets made.
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with design tokens and automation tools (e.g., Style Dictionary, Tokens Studio).
Experience working in the Cybersecurity space.

Month 1
Familiarize yourself with
Our past, present, and planned design systems work
Current governance processes, tools and contribution models utilized by our team
Current product roadmap and strategic priorities
Jump in with sleeves rolled up and help shape the future of our product suite design design system through current roadmap initiatives
Start building relationships with your product, design, engineering, and marketing partners
Month 3
Make connections with designers, understanding their product spaces and how they work with their feature teams
Identify gaps in our existing design system and visual language and suggest concepts and solutions
Lead design critiques and office hours, offering feedback and building professional relationships with our stakeholders across various product areas
Lead the evolution of our design systems growth to support the needs of a multi-brand, multi-product suite
Month 6+
Co-own the future of the design system with other systems designers and devs
Raise the bar of quality for our products' UI by leveraging the design system and contributing back to it, ensuring its continued evolution
Organize office hours, workshops, and design review sessions, ensuring the bar for design execution is set appropriately
Stand up for accessible and inclusive design best practices
Inspire a design culture of excellence by curating and sharing design examples, sparking new ideas, and encouraging experimentation
USA-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $143,000 USD and $193,000 USD, plus immediate participation in 1Password's benefits program (health, dental, 401k and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
Canada-based roles only: The annual base salary for this role is between $122,000 CAD and $166,000 CAD, plus immediate participation in 1Password’s generous benefits program (health, dental, RRSP and many others), utilization of our generous paid time off, an equity grant and, where applicable, participation in our incentive programs.
